Niagara Dam – Site 8 Golden Quest Discovery Trail
What a surprising sight Niagara Dam is ! And what a folly it was to build it !
Constructed in 1897 – 98, the intention was that the dam would provide plentiful water for the locomotives along the new rail link between Kalgoorlie and Menzies. By the time the dam was completed it had accumulated very little water.
For over a century this oasis in the wilderness has provided a picnic, swimming and camping spot for locals and visitors alike.
The dam is full at present and very inviting, worth a stop over on your journey along the Golden Quest Discovery Trail.
